In 2021, GRuB did some intentional deep listening sessions and gathered feedback from our Black community. In response to what we heard, GRuB is engaging Black community members in a cohort work group built around the creation of a GRuB educational resource for Black people. This resource will focus on recognizing, revering and uncovering the true history of black food pioneers and culinary genius. The compiling of the resource, and the work the cohort does to create it, will connect people back to the land. Black community members, including black youth, will bring content to re-educate, reclaim and re-center our land as a place of healing. It will highlight Black cultural resilience, creativity and earth wisdom and land, food and building community together. GRuB’s mission is to support healthy food, people and community through providing skills, leadership and connection to the land. We are committed to deepen equity as reflected in GRuB’s current strategic plan priorities. Yet we acknowledge that as an organization, we have work to do to create a space beyond inclusion. This project moves us toward uplifting the experience of black people who are still experiencing the legacy of oppression and impacts of American enslavement. Your donation will support GRuB in providing staffing, coordination, facility use, technology resources and member honorariums for work group members’ participation. |
